# What is Ember?

Ember is the first NFT rent & earn Protocol, allowing everyone to share game-items, land-assets, collectibles & more. Ember enables every Game, Guild & user to earn from their NFTs and for users to share assets without friction. Ember brings the sharing economy to the world of NFTs, gaming, finance & entertainment, creating a new own-to-earn direction for Web3. Ember is complete with an intuitive marketplace & an NFT Wallet, all powered by the Ember renting protocol.

Ember is fully decentralized, offering users secure, easy-to-use, zero-collateral, zero-KYC NFT renting and borrowing. Lenders can share various NFT assets on the Ember Marketplace and earn passive income while doing so. On the other hand, Borrowers can access any NFT by renting it for a small fee instead of paying full price. Ember unlocks the potential of digital assets and opens up new possibilities for future utilities of NFTs by providing the key infrastructure for a sharing economy. Ember redefines the monetization strategy for Web3 users instead of just selling and buying assets for profit, users can now earn passive income from sharing their NFTs.

# Overview

*“Born too late to explore the world, born too early to explore the universe, born just in time to explore the blockchain.” - some dude on the internet"*

Gone are the days when nobody knew about Bitcoin or Ethereum. In fact, the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies is already underway. Even the mainstream media can no longer ignore the buzz surrounding Web 3.0 and NFTs.

NFTs rose to prominence with a couple of successful projects that gained worldwide fame. However, it’s clear that NFTs are still in their infancy as they are often misunderstood and misrepresented as being expensive JPEGs or overpriced digital art. This view misses the important aspects of non-fungible tokens; as NFTs have proved to have the ability to be the foundation of ownership in the digital world, with endless applications in Finance, Gaming, Entertainment and Community in Web3, and even granting users real world utility, giving new meaning to digital ownership. NFT utilities can take many forms and Ember allows users to finally leverage this endless potential.

# Our Mission

Ember sets out to onboard the next billion Users into Web3 - we believe that the current state of the NFT market does not properly reflect the deep utility that NFTs can offer. By introducing the first of its kind own-to-earn, sharing economy in the world of non-fungible tokens, Ember seeks to redefine the entire NFT market, allowing users to access any NFT, and eliminating the barriers to entry that prevent mainstream adoption. At the same time, NFT owners are rewarded with passive income, generated through the renting of their digital assets, and unlocking billions in value for the entire ecosystem and its Users.

Ember is paving the way for NFTs 2.0, building on the current NFT standards which are limited to the buying and selling of digital assets. The future of Web3 includes Gamers, brands, Guilds, retailers, artists, creators, investors, and average joes, all transacting, sharing, building and using NFTs. By offering the infrastructure for sharing NFTs, Ember contributes to the maturation of the digital ecosystem by allowing new kinds of exchanges & transactions which give users the choice and the opportunity to take full advantage of NFTs creating new possibilities in the way that NFTs can be used. This new innovation is the next phase in the scaling of Web3, allowing everyone to get onboard.

# Features

Ember is the first peer-to-peer marketplace designed to enable borrowing & lending NFTs in an uncollateralized, noncustodial & decentralised fashion. Lenders can list their NFTs on the Ember marketplace where borrowers will be able to borrow the assets for a set time period. Our Rental features include:

#### Fixed Fee Rental

Lenders specify which asset they want to list, as well as the rental period and the daily or period fee. Lenders can also choose which permissions they allow while their NFT is in the borrower's hands.

#### Revenue Sharing Rentals

Yield generating NFTs such as gaming NFTs can be listed in the Ember marketplace and lent out by their owners by specifying the revenue split between lender and borrower, as well as the rental duration. Any yield earned from NFTs being rented out for split sharing will be divided up between the two parties according to the rental terms.

#### Direct Lending

Yield generating NFTs can be directly sent to a friend or scholar's address by specifying their address the rental duration as well as the revenue sharing split between owner and user.

#### Payment Plans

Now you can buy NFTs via instalments through Ember, and still utilize the NFT during the payment plan duration. Ember will soon introduce buy it now & buy it later, within the marketplace. This is achieved through the Ember protocol technology, where NFTs are used in vaults, and released after the payment plan duration. This will further allow virtually every single user from all over the world to join Web3, via Ember.

#### NFT Subletting

Ember allows users to have the option of borrowing NFTs on the Ember marketplace and then subletting it to another user for a fee or in direct lending according to the terms set by the original lender. This feature allows borrowers to be capital efficient and offers them the opportunity to make rental strategies.

#### Owner Controlled Permissions

Ember adds an additional layer on top of all rental features for lenders to ensure that the usage of their NFT by borrowers lies within their permissions. Lenders can choose to allow or ban actions that are tied to the usage of their NFTs. These permissions will determine what borrowers can and can't do with the NFT while it is in their possession.

#### Personalized Usage Statistics

Lenders and borrowers alike will be able to organize and manage statistics for their usage of the Ember platform, including earnings, time saved while renting NFTs, amount of collections that they have utilized, etc.

# Usecases

The Ember Protocol is not creating a bias on what the most-adopted use cases of NFTs will be. Ember supports every kind of NFT, whether it’s gaming, music rights, memberships, or the future utilities of NFTs that are yet to be implemented; sharing and borrowing these digital assets will be possible through the infrastructure that Ember provides.

#### Gaming

Gaming on the blockchain has already proved to be hugely popular, and Ember allows players to access the different worlds of these Games by enabling the renting of NFT assets for a fraction of the price, lowering the barriers to adoption. Ember helps gaming guilds become more capital efficient, and games to bootstrap users by unleashing the power of a sharing economy. characters, skins, weapons, the scope is endless, and introducing the ability to take these assets and monetizing them in a new and different approach that is much more scalable is something that is needed to grow Gaming & Earning - and exactly what we are introducing with Ember.

#### Metaverse

Similarly to Gaming, the Metaverse has seen great interest from institutions, investors, brands and Users, who are buying land in the Metaverse to leverage its future potential. Now, with Ember, they could put their Land to work, for example renting it to others to earn passive income, in a similar way to how Real Estate in the real world might work. This won’t just benefit the users, brands, and retailers who want to get access to the Metaverses, but also helps Metaverses themselves grow and scale as they are being connected with new stakeholders who can now tap into their worlds as Ember has made it that much more accessible.

#### Entertainment

Ember allows users to create a sharing economy for sports, music, movie & sport utility NFTs. For example, Music artists are beginning to sell their music as NFTs, competing against low-paying streaming services. By tokenising Music and the rights for this, it opens up a whole new market for Artists to make money from their music, and for holders of the NFTs to get access to the Music Rights or other exclusive benefits. Artists are now also creating NFTs to auction off the Royalties or Publishing rights to their music and creations, or to sell the Publishing rights to their music - allowing investors to hedge bets of the future value of these rights. The same logic applies to Movies, Sports, and more. Now these Entertainment Assets can be leveraged and earned from through Ember.

#### Access Passes

Profile Pictures and Community Collections are gaining additional utility as Access Passes - acting as the key to merchandise, events, and experiences that are only available to holders of specific collections. Notably, Shopify has launched partnerships with Web3 brands such as Moonbirds, Doodles, Invisible Friends, Cool Cats, World of Women and more, creating tokengated shops which can only be accessed through holding the respective NFTs. Using Ember, access to these communities and exclusive events, merchandise and experiences can be gained by borrowing an NFT, and these digital assets can be leveraged by holders and earned from through sharing them to others.

#### Web Domains

One of the biggest businesses of Web2 was domains. Depending on traffic, popularity or simply the name, prices could sometimes reach millions. We’re already seeing ENS sell for high prices - crypto.eth sold for 60e, google.eth sold for 52e. We’re already seeing some brands picking up their own ENS - but not everyone - and especially not the Web2 brands who will inevitably make the leap to Web3 - will be that fast or that savvy to get the ENS they desire. Someone who becomes an owner of such an NFT could choose to rent it out and allow people to pay a fee to use a subdomain of this ENS. In another instance, a business may choose to rent the ENS to be used as a wallet address to receive funds for their business. The different use cases and utility of ENS that come about can all be earned from and leveraged through Ember.
These are just a selection of the opportunities to lend your NFTs, and as the utility of NFTs expands, as will the opportunities to leverage these utilities through Ember. With Ember, any NFT can be transformed into a yield-generating asset, earning Lenders passive income and allowing Borrowers to access the different utilities of different NFTs for a fraction of the price.\

# Interoperability

Ember is built with the objective of supporting every Game and every NFT asset, and there is therefore the requirement for Ember to be chain agnostic, supporting as many chains as is possible in an order of demand. With Ethereum being the most popular, we are first focusing on bringing Ember’s technology to Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains and then bringing Ember to non-EVM compatible chains such as Near, Solana, Elrond, Cardano, and more.

Ember also supports renting and borrowing for all ERC Token standards including ERC-721, ERC-1155, ERC-4907 and allows users to take full advantage of the utility that these token standards offer, combined with the additional functionality that Ember unlocks on top of these standards.

Ember offers users interoperability between the most popular blockchains and token standards, and ensures low cost chains are supported, and that Ember’s stakeholders can access and utilize NFTs in applications across as many chains as is reasonably possible.

# How It Works

Ember is composed of the Ember Marketplace & Ember NFT Wallet, both of which are powered by the Ember Protocol. The Ember Marketplace constitutes the interface with which users can interact with the Protocol, while the Ember NFT Wallet allows users to simulate ownership of borrowed NFTs using adapters which set the permissions for what Borrowers are allowed to do with the NFTs while rented. Let's dive into how each of the Marketplace, Wallet & Protocol work.

# Ember Marketplace

The Ember Marketplace is an intuitive Marketplace which Users can use to rent, borrow, share, buy & sell NFTs of all kinds, bringing new ways for everyone to leverage digital assets, unlocking new ways to earn passive income and access the different utilities of NFTs. Buying and selling of the Ember Marketplace work in the same way that these functions do on other NFT Marketplace platforms. Ember’s core focus however, is enabling a sharing economy of NFTs through the renting and borrowing of NFTs.

On the Ember Marketplace, Lenders can connect any wallet to the Ember platform, select an NFT from their holdings, and choose a rental duration, rental price, and adapters which control the permissions that the Borrower has when using the NFT.

Adapters can be built by developers for any Game, in return they earn fees per usage. Adapters specify the permissions that Lenders allow Borrowers to have over their assets. Adapters essentially whitelist and blacklist functions that they NFT can be used for; for example, disallowing the destroying of buildings on Land NFTs whilst enabling the construction of them, or enabling the use of an NFT Car to be used in a racing game whilst disallowing modifications to be made to the vehicle. This allows Lenders to have full control over how their assets are used.

Upon listing on Ember’s Marketplace, the listed NFTs are deposited into Ember's decentralized vault Protocol. The application or game would recognize the vault as the owner of the NFT for the entire rental duration. Once listed, these NFTs would immediately be able to be rented by Borrowers.

#### Features:

* Peer-to-Peer: Borrow & Lend assets listed on the Ember Marketplace as well as buy & selling
* Direct lending: Send your NFTs to a scholar or a friend directly to their address and specify a revenue sharing scheme.
* Owner controlled permissions/usage of adapters Subletting NFTs: renting an NFT from the Ember Marketplace and releasing it to another Borrower for the rental duration.
* Payment plans: rent an NFT and pay in instalments until the agreed sale price is reached and ownership is transferred.
* Personalized Usage Statistics: Organize and manage statistics for your usage of the Ember platform, including earnings, time rented out, etc.

# Ember NFT Wallet

Borrowers would utilize The Ember NFT Wallet to borrow NFTs from Ember. The Ember NFT Wallet gives Borrowers the ability to interact with the NFT through adapters and the permissions they set, by simulating the ownership of the assets in the vault Protocol, whilst ensuring that the Borrower cannot remove the NFT from the vault. This approach secures the assets of the Lenders, and allows them to set the terms of usage of their assets.

#### Features:

* Enables borrowing of NFTs through Ember
* Normative wallet functions include storage of tokens, NFTs and transaction history.
* Additional features optimized for NFTs & Gaming Rental Statistics -
* Information on rented NFTs (remaining duration). Extend Rental Duration through Wallet.
* Cross-Chain
* Non-Custodial.

The Ember NFT Wallet interacts with the vault protocol in which the NFT is staked through the use of adapters which whitelist the actions that the Borrower can use the NFT. The Game or Application would recognize the vault as the owner of the NFT for the entire rental duration. By simulating the ownership of the assets in the vault protocol through the Ember NFT Wallet, Borrowers can utilize their rented NFTs in line with the permissions they have been granted, and ensures that the NFTs cannot be misused by the Borrower.

*The parties involved in Ember's solution are Lenders, Borrowers, Developers and in some cases, the Games.*

**1)** Lenders choose a rental duration, price and permissions. Upon listing, the NFTs are deposited into Ember's vault Protocol. The application would recognize the vault as the owner of the NFT for the entire rental duration.

**2)** Adapters can be built by developers for any game, in return they earn fees per usage. Adapters specify the permissions that Lenders allow Borrowers to have over their assets.

**3)** The Ember wallet gives Borrowers the ability to interact with the NFT through adapters and the permissions they set, by simulating the ownership of the assets in the vault Protocol. This approach secures the assets of the Lenders, and allows them to set the terms of usage of their assets.

**4)** Games can integrate the Ember SDK for increased utility & features for their users, including the ability to borrow NFTs without the requirement for the Ember Gaming Wallet to be used, but the base lending and adapters are available for all NFTs, regardless of utility or type.

The Ember infrastructure is designed to enable zero adoption scaling for gaming and interaction with any game on the market without the need for integration from the games' developers. Our stacks allow for this zero adoption requirement.

#### Ember Staking Contract

Where lenders can “stake” their NFTs with specific parameters and adapter choices and enjoy the passive income without having to worry about any risks of loss or liquidation.

#### Ember Vault Contract

Which interacts with the games on behalf of the borrower while giving him no transfer right, which means we can achieve collateral-free lending and remain completely decentralized. This can be achieved with the help of the Ember NFT Wallet.

#### Ember NFT Wallet

A customized wallet using the same mechanism as the most popular crypto wallets and with additional NFT specific features; built on the Metamask allowing for zero adoption with no integration needed by applications.

#### Ember Adapters

Adapters interact with the Vault and the Gaming Wallet and allow users to choose customizable permissions that the Borrower will have during the rental period. Adapters essentially whitelist or blacklist functions that the NFT can be used for.

#### Notes on Ember Architecture:

Ember's architecture, including the Marketplace, Protocol and NFT Wallet allows for balance between security, decentralization & user experience as well as complete adaptability for current and future use-cases of NFTs. Ember is an infrastructure that is modelled and inspired after Layer 1 Chains, meaning that developers can use Ember to build tools & integrations for the NFT collections of their choice and earn from the usage of these tools for each rental.

This open-infrastructure approach means that the protocol can be scaled in a decentralized fashion and that current NFT use-cases and potential use-cases are available to be built by the developer communities of the respective games and applications. This also allows developers to explore NFTs and build tools that are adapted to the growing industry in which Ember operates. Ember's infrastructure makes Ember incredibly modular, flexible and adaptive to new developments in the NFT space and widens the horizons for users and developers to endless heights.

# Ember SDK

Guild & Game partners can integrate Ember's SDK which allows for added functionality within the Games. The SDK builds on Ember's base rental features to allow for further customization of the gaming experience for players, Guilds & Games alike, including a bounty feature and the ability to rent and borrow NFTs without requirement for Ember NFT Wallet, but the base lending and adapters are available for all NFTs, regardless of utility or type.

# Integrate Ember

We also create bespoke NFT Marketplaces for Games & Guilds that are plugged into the Ember Protocol to provide renting functionality, as well as the normative Marketplace functions like the buying and selling of in-game assets. We do this through creating a branded user-interface for Games and Guilds, or through the use of intuitive APIs which allow Games and Guilds to leverage Ember’s core technologies.

# For Guilds

Ember White Label is available for Gaming Guilds looking to build their own branded Marketplaces for their communities to share their NFT assets and leverage the NFTs that are listed on the Ember Marketplace. This allows Guilds to increase their armouries through renting, and provide a wider offering to their Scholarbase through Ember. The Ember White Label approach allows Guilds to enable the renting, borrowing and direct lending of all NFTs, as well as the buying & selling of assets. The benefits to Guilds include:

* Sharing Economy of NFTs for Guilds & Scholars
* Capital efficiency for Guilds & access to Ember’s aggregated inventory of assets
* Automatically integrated with nearly every Game & every NFT
* Automated profit & revenue splits for NFT sharing
* Additional functionalities including bulk claiming, bulk sending & direct lending.
* Composable owner-controlled permissions to meet & manage Guild & Scholar needs

# For Games

We also create bespoke branded NFT Marketplaces for Games that are plugged into the Ember Protocol to provide renting functionality, as well as the normative Marketplace functions like the buying and selling of in-Game assets. Games can list NFTs on the Marketplace and lend them directly to players and Guilds who want to access their worlds, lowering the barriers for adoption and bringing new revenue streams to Games through the automated profit sharing and revenue splits from renting. The benefits to Games include:

* Seamless and frictionless exchange of digital assets
* Users to earn passive income from sharing their NFTs
* New Players to access your Game through renting & borrowing
* More control over how NFTs are used through the power of Adapters
* Lower barrier to adoption for Games, in a fully decentralized, non custodial format
* More scalability & bootstrapping of users without devaluing the NFT supply

# Token Utility

The Ember native token, $EMB, provides participants with an additional way to earn passive income. Users can stake their EMB and enjoy fees generated from the Protocol. In line with the decentralized nature of the Ember Protocol, the structure of the Staking Model for $EMB has been designed to decentralize and deepen the liquidity of $EMB over time.

This is achieved through pairing Protocol fees from transactions on Ember with newly minted EMB (up to the limit of 300,000,000 $EMB, equivalent to 30% of the total supply that is allocated for the Ecosystem & Staking) and distributing this liquidity to EMB stakers, meaning that the Ember Protocol and the liquidity of $EMB will be owned in the majority by holders of $EMB.

$EMB will also provide additional benefits to holders and stakers, including:

* Governance/Ember DAO Access
* Single sided staking & Protocol revenue
* Rebates/Discounts
* Access to featured launches on Ember.
